its absolutely beautiful here, and i{ll try to include some pics, but really its time consuming to update and its just so pretty out!
luckily this computer is super fast and i have sent 5 zip files of pics to myself so far and uploaded some stuff to flickr. i figured that would be a faster way than trying to edit pics into here.
so heres la laguna chikabal, the hike i did a couple sundays ago that was essentially 5 km straight up a volcano (ouch!) but it was good because it broke me in a bit for the santa maria hike.

and here{s a video to give an idea of how incredibly creepy it was up there. the clouds-fog moved so fast it would be beautiful and sunny one second, and then the lake would mysteriously disappear.
the hike down was MUCH nicer, but there was one last, grueling hill on the way out. of course. all in all a very beautiful day.
then santa maria. words cannot express this hike. it was completely lit up by the moon the first 4 hours and we got there just as the sun was coming up. i couldn{t stop taking pics, as you{ll see from teh flickr.

here are a couple videos as well.
and one thing that kept blowing my mind was on one side of the volcano the clouds just wouldn{t leave, and the sun was shining from directly behind. this also happened to be where no one was, since the view wasn{t as nice. so i went here to read, looked down into the clouds, and saw this

it was much brighter in person, and so rad. a rainbow halo around my shadow. it made for such a wonderful spot to sit, read, write and reflect.
i didnt want to come down. not in the slightest. but I had to and enjoyed my last bit of xela. went to a market on friday that was mostly american stuff, but the town had a phenomenal view of xela and other surrounding valleys, then played games with alejandra and my roomies that evening.
the lake has been magical. i wish i had months to stay here. there are at least 13 pueblos that scatter the lakeshore and numerous back into the hills. i started working at the hostel im at for free room and board, which ended up being so fun. i miss bartending and thats mostly what i do, as well as check people in. plus there food here is absolutely amazing, but expensive (by guatemalan standards) so being able to eat for free (and man did I eat) was a huge stress reliever. And by working here, I made friends pretty easily since I met everyone who worked here and anyone who wanted a drink (which is pretty much everyone hehe). it also contributed to my internet breakdown, though, since they no longer charged me for the internet.
I don{t have any pics from here, because I need to go.. but I will catch up someday. need to go home, pack, shower and get ready for the cross dressing bbq my hostel has every saturday. they have th emost amazing beet based veggie burger, i cant even begin to explain it.
off to the jungle tomorrow, looks like 12 hours on the bus to get there. should be awesome! <3
...and the downpour begins. I shouldve known. should be a fun boat ride home!
